Fun Exchanges and Activities for Science Teachers

Have you been looking for new, exciting, teacher-tested ideas for your science classroom? Or perhaps you’ve wanted to have a discussion about science resources, safety in the lab, or how other teachers manage a certain science demonstration or other activity? Or maybe you simply want to network with other science teachers and build a lasting friendship with other science educators. If this is what you’re looking for, we welcome you to FEAST. FEAST is truly a grass roots effort that began with a small group of about 8 secondary science teachers in the fall of 2005.

Today our FEAST list has grown in size to over 200 teachers. We meet once a month during the school year and topics are selected by the FEAST teachers. Most of our sessions invite teachers to share lessons and demonstrations around a particular topic such as "Energy" or "Toys in Science" or "Climate Science," etc. However, we also have visiting speakers who might present a half day workshop. All of these experiences are conducted on Saturday mornings. There is no cost to join or participate as long as you are an educator. However, we do want to emphasize that the reason the FEAST sessions have become so successful is because of the sharing that goes on. By sharing one of your favorite lessons around a particular topic, other educators can gain access to yet another idea. You’ll find our sessions to be very casual yet welcoming to all who wish to share. We hope you will join us at one of our future sessions.

FEAST (Fun Exchanges and Activities for Science Teachers) would like to welcome all teachers to attend our next session:

FEAST Presents: A Space Share-A-Thon

At our final session of the school year, we’ll be exploring anything related to the space theme. From the moment you begin preparing for this galactic experience, consider any connections to chemistry, physics, environmental science, biology and physiology. Take a good look at your science curriculum and you’ll probably find a lot of ideas. As part of this session, we plan to go out to the observatory deck and engage in some solar viewing opportunities. Since this is a Share-A-Thon, we will also provide some free resources for you take back to your schools. As always, we encourage everyone to seize the opportunity to share an activity or two with a very receptive group of FEAST teachers. Bring a space-related demo, lesson and/or other idea to share and you’ll add to the excitement of teachers teaching teachers. Since this is our final session of the school year, let’s go out with a …….you guessed it, Big Bang!
